The French Party Might Be Better

I recieved the following invitation as part of being a member of AmCham (this membership is now pretty much useless as it doesn't get you a base pass for the Yongsan U.S. Army Base. Now it only gets you invitations to expensive parties). See Below:

Download FormI was discussing this with my friend and decided that not only are parties like this awkward to go to and make you feel like you are only 'acting like high society', they are very expensive. 225,000원 a person is not my idea of a cheap cover charge. Then you have to look at all the other people dressed like this.

The other thing is that I am way too cheap to buy a whole table, which means I would be seated with people like this. I can imagine it would be hard spending the evening talking with people you don't know who likely make more money than you and don't really think you belong. At any rate, our final conslusion is that hte French definitely know how to throw a better party, and their party is no more expensive, even if you are not a member. Au Revoir AmCham!   • The cover charge is pretty darn expensive. So it's better if you can charge it to the company.

    The conversation around the table isn't so bad. Most people there aren't trying to show that they are better than you and they frequently have interesting things to say (or sometimes unintentionally funny things, like the time I sat next to the CFO of S-Oil and his wife was bragging about how she is so considerate when she sent a Korean calligraphy set to her mom and sister who are really into calligraphy. She still doesn't grasp that there are fundamental differences between Oriental and Western calligraphy...)
