Clearning Ajuma 아줌마 in the bathrooms

So my friend (C) sent this article on people of the wrong sex cleaning your bathroom as you do you duty. This is something I have been meaning to address on my blog. It is somewhat disconcerting when you are relieving yourself at a urinal and they walk up and ask you to lift up one foot at a time to mop under, or they don't ask and just start hitting your foot. I've also seen cleaning ladies in the bathroom talking on their cell phones while just standing there. I personally would choose to go out of the bathroom to talk on my cellphone, because I consider it rude to talk in a bathroom, much less be a women and talk in a men's bathroom. I liked how one lady’s title in the articles was the Chairperson of the Citizens Commission on Bathroom Culture. How would you like that all day long? Talk about bathrooms for your job.

  • Yeah, it's a bit awkward. Whatever. Probably worse for timid ladies. But I can't believe that there's a 화장실문화시민연대 organization. And it even has its own chairwoman! Do you think she has business cards that say 표혜령 화장실문화시민연대 대표. This lady (and the rest of the 연대, however many of them there are--I can't imagine too many) have got to get real lives!

You know, and with Korean bathroom culture, what is it about NOT HEATING the damn things. That is M-U-C-H more unpleasant than having some 아줌마 in there mopping between the legs.

  • I guess not heating the thing is pretty unpleasent too. That's why our company added bidets in all the bathroom. I guess the trade off is you get heated but filthy seats.
