We Love To Parade our Foreigners in Korea!

Korea! Home to the purest race on earth! We don't have many foreigners here because we are such a pure race, but we do love to parade them around!

I cringe every time I see one of these stories. This was on MBC News last night. I just feel sorry for the guy, because he probably didn't know what they wanted anyway. I'm sure they told him they were doing an in-depth interview and asked lots of questions, but then just took the video and chopped it up into nice little parade cuts. So they have this guy, a player in the KBL playing Korean cards, reading a Korean newspaper, and of course eating Korean food. The thing ends with the obligatory greeting in Korean, this one a New Year's greeting that they somehow tricked him into trying out.

It is funny because the introductory comment from the anchor is "It is hard to live in another country, but foreign athletes here have fallen in love with Korea." They then show one guy who plays volleyball and one guy who plays basketball. That is a great sample of the foreign athletes here. I bet it is real accurate. Anyway, these types of "let'ss parade our foreigner around the block" stories makes me want to puke. They need to show the story about the female athlete who gets propositioned by every male in her team's organization and it's parent organization, or the non-white athlete who gets yelled at when he is with his Korean girlfriend. Disgusting propagand story! I can say that because it happens to me a lot at work. My company wants to show how global it is and so anytime they have groups of foreigners visit they like me to come attend. Oh, they don't give me a functional role, like being the host, or introducing LGE, they let the thickly-accented, Konglish-speaking employee who spent a year in Australia do that.
