Friends in High Places, Well, now in prison: FSS Official
My life is taking the route of a country song. I can no longer say I have friends in high places, but must follow Garth Brook's anthem of having friends in low places. At one point several years ago I taught English to Mr. Kim Jung Hoe (김중회) the assistant governor (부원장) of the Financial Supervisory Service (금융감동원). In fact, as I am writing, I note that I have a gift set of Korean currency he gave to me sitting at my desk here. I wonder how he got it since he has now been indicted on charges of bribery to help a guy buy a bank. That is just so odd, because he really was a very nice person, and like I said gave me the gift. I recall he even gave me the traditional congratulations money for my wedding as I taught him right up until I was married. I wonder who else will lose their job as a result, because I also taught the director of the Banking Oversight Department, which would have had to play a role in this somehow.

wow. Your brush with fame. Too bad you didn't tutor him when he had more cash coming in than he knew what to do with ^^

So I th ink I got 5만원 for the wedding, 만원 if you count the dual 5천원 displayy, and 2천원 for the 천원 display, plus some change for the Korean change display. So that's a total of about 6만3천원. But actually, that was probably from his expense account and not the $240,000 in bribe money he took. You're right, I should have asked for more...
